Joe's Got The Midas Touch

This weekend, Paul Beehler generously opened the doors to his neighborhood Midas for a "Joe Knows Jobs" event to check out what's under the hood at this local small business! This Midas franchise, with eight locations and around fifty employees, has been trying to hang on for the ride through this recession. Nevadans across the valley are screaming for Titus and Pelosi to slam the brakes on the spending, so I thought it was only fitting I roll up my sleeves to help with a full service, brake check with Wally, my boss for the day.

It was great meeting the Midas team and the employees from other auto shops in the plaza. Speaking with these small business owners, one thing is clear: Titus' liberal tax-and-spend policies simply do not work. As I have continually heard from Nevada business owners like Paul, in order for jobs to flourish and for our economy to rebound, we must lower the tax and bureaucratic burdens on the small businesses that provide jobs to Nevada's working families. This November, I will roll up my sleeves once again to help fix the problems under the hood of Nevada's crumbling economy and restoring the jobs Nevada families desperately need. Thanks again to Paul, Pete, Wally and the entire Midas team. It was great working to fix the brakes: next we'll work together to fix this economy.

Labor Union Repays Dina Titus For Loyalty

Dina “Tax-Us” Titus is already at it. She is up on TV with a misleading ad on her record. The ad claims that Dina voted against the bank bailout, but there is only one problem... she wasn't even in Congress during the original bank bailout vote! Nevadans know Dina's record better than she does. They know that the failed Titus - Pelosi policies have led us on a destructive path of record foreclosures and the highest unemployment in the nation!

Dina Titus has spent the last two years cozying up to Nancy Pelosi and her Washington cronies instead of listening to Nevada families. Meanwhile, I've seen first hand the destruction that her policies have created right here at home. While Dina has been making new friends with lobbyists, I've been busy seeing patients at UMC, keeping a small business alive and helping prepare our troops to protect America.

While I continue to fight for a better Nevada and to jump-start private sector job creation, the Washington and San Francisco special interest groups have already shown they don't want to lose Titus’ 96.7 percent voting record with Nancy Pelosi. Young Professional Roundtable

Yesterday, I met with 12 young Nevadans to discuss their outlook on the economy, their prospects for employment, and their future in Nevada. It was a small but diverse group comprised of young men and women, undergraduate and graduate students, recent college graduates – both employed and unemployed, as well as high school grads without any college. Throughout the hour-long discussion, there were several consistent themes:

1. Employment opportunities are limited across the spectrum and for various reasons. The hospitality sector is hard-hit by the recession and students majoring in the field have seen a marked decrease in the number of management training programs offered by the larger properties as they re-direct resources to maintain existing employees instead of developing future employees. In other sectors, job offers made in anticipation of graduation have been pulled back or re-offered at lower salaries.

2. Due to the lack of confidence and uncertainty in the job market, many are delaying graduation or considering going directly on to graduate school.

3. The lack of jobs is due to more than the economy. A young veteran who is a certified welder with years of experience and recently returned from a one year tour of duty in Afghanistan (after prior tours in Iraq), was told the only jobs available were at a starting wage. He felt that too many construction jobs go to workers brought in from out-of-state and not enough was done to ensure Nevada workers were hired. Interestingly, this group of mainly college students and young professionals felt that illegal immigration also played a role in the depressed job market – not necessarily due to direct competition within their profession but due to the diversion of money out of Nevada and the economic impact from the loss of that revenue locally.

4. Another issue that was almost universal among the group was the general concern over the state of education in Nevada and its effect on recruiting businesses to the State.

5. In general, there was a concern over increased government regulation and taxation as a further detriment to re-vitalizing the job market.

6. Overall, the outlook was dim for their short-range (2-3 year) future, with five of the 12 already contemplating leaving Nevada to seek employment opportunities elsewhere.

From this roundtable, it is clear that the current economic crisis has a far-reaching effect impacting on the future leaders of our State and that we need much more that just quick-fix, band-aid solutions to our economic problems if we wish to revitalize our economy, restore confidence, and return to prosperity.

Monday, Dr. Joe Heck officially launched his "Joe Knows Jobs" educational tour of current and future businesses driving commerce in the Las Vegas valley. This will be an ongoing series of events including meeting with business owners, touring local businesses, and partaking in the day-to-day operations of their employees. Friday, Joe met with Eagle Quest of southern Nevada. Eagle Quest provides therapeutic foster home services to our most troubled youth; they were recently forced to cut 40 positions in the last 60 days. This was the beginning of the "Joe Knows Jobs" tour - an effort designed to put Joe Heck on the front line with local employers and employees. While many Members of Congress are hiding from their constituents, Joe Heck will be learning first-hand about the effects that government regulations and instability have on our local economy. Monday, Joe toured Las Vegas Biodiesel, a company with the capabilities to be a renewable energy leader in southern Nevada.

Stay tuned for more "Joe Knows Jobs" events as Joe jumps into the pit at a neighborhood Midas, meets with potential business owners who are trying to cut through government red tape in an effort to bring new jobs to southern Nevada, and tours local companies across southern Nevada.

Titus Ad: Where Are The Jobs?

Today, in response to a recent LVRJ poll that showed Dina “Tax-Us” Titus in a statistical tie with Dr. Joe Heck, Titus rushed to redefine her record with warm and fuzzy ads designed to pull the wool over the voters eyes. The recent LVRJ poll pointed out what has been clear throughout this campaign: families in Southern Nevada are fed up with the liberal agenda of Nancy Pelosi and Dina Titus.

A desperate “Tax-Us” Titus finds her unfavorable rating at a robust 44%, a clear sign that her campaign is in a tail spin, and Titus finds herself in a statistical tie with challenger Dr. Joe Heck. David Wasserman of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report pointed out "If voters haven't made up their mind to support Dina Titus now, it is unlikely they will before election day." Wasserman added: "If that is what polls are showing the day before the election, the odds are Dina Titus is not coming back to Congress."

“Tax-Us” Titus had no choice but to make a drastic campaign by going up on television with her first ad filled with half-truths, and campaign rhetoric. Dina “Tax-Us” Titus will continue to run from the reality of her record, but Nevadans know her record as a career politician: once a tax and spend liberal, always a tax and spend liberal.

In response to Titus’s new ad Dr. Heck issued the following statement:

"Who is Titus trying to fool? The Titus/Pelosi liberal agenda has failed to provide any sustainable relief for southern Nevada neighborhoods and drove our housing market into the ground. While Dina Titus spouts off talking points given to her from the D.C. bubble, southern Nevadans face the hard truth and reality of record foreclosures, the highest unemployment in the nation and 70 percent of their neighbors in Congressional District 3 drowning in underwater mortgages. Liberals like Speaker Pelosi and Dina Titus cannot even begin to wrap their heads around the realities of why people in Congressional District 3 are struggling so badly. Titus needs to learn the issue is jobs: jobs will save homes, jobs will keep people in Nevada, and jobs will get our economy moving again. I am running to bring A New Direction to Washington, one where putting every Nevadan back to work is the top priority," said Dr. Joe Heck

Union Pockets Lined With Food Stamp Dollars

Today, Dr. Joe Heck issued the following statement upon Dina Titus’ return to Nevada. Titus returned to southern Nevada from her "whirlwind trip" to Washington, D.C due to Pelosi's last minute special session which left Members scrambling to board last minute flights on the taxpayers dime for a single day of voting.

It took only hours for Dina Titus to express how "proud" she was of her vote in favor of the Union bailout bill. Once again, Pelosi, Titus, and the liberals in Congress introduce another government bailout, to help their political allies while directly attacking those who need our help the most by cutting 12 billion in food-stamp dollars. These cuts leave Nevada families wondering what is next for them, while the Union Bosses continue to line their pockets. The use of the Food Stamp program in this country has continued to rise at an alarming rate for a record breaking 18 months.

Dr. Joe Heck, a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, announced the launch of the "Veterans for Heck Coalition." This coalition, consisting of veterans from across southern Nevada, will be led by a steering committee representing each branch of service including LTC William T. Anton, USA (Ret.), LtCol George Rivers, USMC (Ret.), MCPO Jerry Sherwood, USCG (Ret.), CAPT Phil Perine, USN (Ret.), and CPT Pete Lappin, USAF.

"It is with honor that I announce the support of these distinguished heroes and community leaders. I am proud to be an American, and honored to have stood beside our nation’s finest patriots who have served with valor and distinction,” said Joe Heck. “There is no greater call to service than the one to defend the American values of freedom and liberty. Judgment Day For Dina

Today, the Friends of Joe Heck campaign released the following statement as the former Chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, Charlie Rangel, prepares for his legal debut. The House ethics committee will release the detailed results of its Rangel probe Thursday. A special investigative subcommittee has already concluded there is “substantial reason to believe” that he broke House ethics rules.

“Dina Titus is trying to pull a fast one on Southern Nevada by returning only the Rangel contributions from this cycle. Nevadans want to know if she plans on returning the $14,000 in dirty money that propelled her to victory in 2008. Dina Titus was sent to Congress using the same dishonest money that thrust Rangel from his powerful Chairmanship into the defendant's chair. Dina Titus has already voted to defend the tax-cheating Representative once; Nevadans are watching to see if she will stand by him again as he faces a jury of his peers,” said Grant Hewitt.

Congressional investigators subpoenaed dozens of witness and gathered thousands of pages of documents looking into the charges against Rangel. Allegations against the former Chairman include his failure to report hundreds of thousands of dollars of income and assets, abuse of his Ways and Means Committee post to protect a donor to the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service and failure to pay taxes on rental income for a resort home in the Dominican Republic.

99 Days To Change America

It's been a busy, but exciting week for Team Heck!

Last weekend I headed out to Moapa Valley to tour a portion of Gold Butte, a generational heritage marker for the citizens of Bunkerville, Moapa Valley, and Mesquite. Special thanks to the Public Lands Conservation Committee for taking the time out of their Saturday to take me on this public lands tour. Together, we can all seek common sense conservation solutions that maintain access to these historic lands while preserving their natural beauty. CLICK HERE to read about my trip to Gold Butte.

We also stopped by the Logandale Volunteer Fire Department for a tour of their facilities and had the chance to talk with the members about the issues facing emergency response crews in the area. After visiting the fire department, we toured the Overton business district and caught up with local business owners. Over lunch at Scoops, we discussed how less regulation, less government, and more tax incentives are vital for the survival of small businesses need in the local economy.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Tony Ricco, the firefighters of Station 73, Kent and Kurt Slight, the Hopkins Family, and everyone who took the time out of their day to meet with me. I had a great time getting to know you all!

This weekend was just as busy. I enjoyed meeting with thousands of leading conservative voices in new media at this year's RightOnline conference at the Venetian. I took this opportunity to announce “Operation New Direction,” my new web ad, and encourage conservatives from all over our great country to join our effort to bring A New Direction to Washington. This morning the new 2010 House Ratings as compiled by the Rothenberg Political Report show Dr. Joe Heck’s campaign continues to gain momentum. Nevada’s Third Congressional District has moved from Pure Toss up to “Tilt Republican.” This is the third such move since Dr. Heck’s entry into the race. District Three has moved from Lean Democrat to Tilt Republican in only nine short months.

Today’s shift continues to display what Nevadan have known for months: Dina Titus' liberal agenda is out of touch with the families of Southern Nevada. On November 2nd, the voters of District 3 will show that Titus’ 97.3% voting record with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Leadership is unacceptable, and her unwillingness to address the issues of concern to Southern Nevadans has not gone unnoticed.

“Today’s announcement is a clear indication that people outside of Nevada have come to understand what the voters of southern Nevada already know: Dina Titus is a partisan ‘rubber-stamp’ for the liberal agenda of Nancy Pelosi and Barrack Obama,” said Heck. “As I campaign across southern Nevada the stories of struggle and hardship by families and small businesses are sobering. Washington needs a new direction, one that focuses on getting Nevadans back to work and providing a stable economic environment where businesses can grow and prosper,” continued Heck. “Washington’s top priority should be to get America working again, not passing partisan, job-killing policies that destroy small business and the entrepreneurial spirit,” concluded Heck.
